From the Occult to Jesus

This page is for anyone who wants to learn more about Jesus and isn't sure where to begin. It is here to explain the Christian understanding of occult practices while sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ. Whether you're simply curious or searching for answers, I hope you'll find encouragement and a place to start your journey.
I have had some involvement in the occult, so I understand that leaving these practices behind isn't always easy. Turning away from them can involve spiritual warfare, but Jesus is faithful and walks with us through it.
Jesus welcomes everyone who chooses to turn to Him. No matter where you've been or what you're struggling with, His invitation is open to you. Some practices may take longer to leave behind than others, but God loves you, welcomes you, and wants you to come to Him.
Here you'll find simple introductions to the Bible, explanations of why Christians believe and say the things we do, who Jesus is, and prayers to help you begin talking with God.

Jesus
Jesus performed miracles, but He never used magic, spells, rituals, crystals, divination, or secret knowledge.
Jesus healed because He is God, and His power comes from God alone.
"I and the Father are one."
John 10:30
When Jesus healed people, He brought lasting hope, forgiveness, peace, and freedom. His miracles revealed God's love and pointed people towards eternal life.
"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
John 8:36
In Christianity, it is believed and written that the Lord Jesus gave His disciples a mandate to go out in His name through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Matthew 10, Jesus instructed them to proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven is near, heal the sick, cleanse those with illnesses, and cast out demons. He also taught us to rely on God’s provision, to go with humility, to expect opposition for His name’s sake, and to remain faithful while sharing His message of truth, repentance, and salvation.
We believe that these works and spiritual authority come from God alone, through prayer and faith in Jesus Christ, and are carried out by the power of the Holy Spirit. We do not seek spiritual power through any other sources, spirits, practices, or methods.
We seek all things through God in the name of Jesus.
Spiritual Practises Through the Lens of the Bible
Scripture says:
"Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practises divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."
Deuteronomy 18:10–12
God invites us to seek Him instead of alternative sources.
Throughout Scripture, we see that in times of desperation, worry, uncertainty, fear, or the desire to control the future, many people turned away from God and sought other sources of guidance, power, or security. Rather than trusting the Lord, they looked to mediums, divination, idols, or other practices that promised answers apart from Him (e.g. 1 Samuel 28).
We believe this is one of the enemy's ways of influencing people. Satan rarely presents himself as openly evil. Instead, he offers a counterfeit—a false sense of peace, a false sense of knowledge, a false sense of power, and a false sense of assurance. What he offers may seem comforting for a moment, but it cannot give the lasting peace, wisdom, or security. Jesus said that Satan "is a liar and the father of lies" (John 8:44), and Paul warns that "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14). His greatest weapon is deception.
If you have been involved in the occult, you may have experienced fear, confusion, anxiety, or a constant search for answers and peace. Many people describe feeling as though they are carrying a heavy burden or are never truly at rest.
Sometimes you may hear people say, "You just need a thicker skin," or, "These practices aren't for the weak." But Christianity teaches something different.
The Bible tells us that God does not want us living in fear or spiritual bondage. Instead, Jesus came to bring freedom, peace, and abundant life.
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
2 Timothy 1:7
God wasn't trying to make life difficult. He warned us against those practices to protect us.
So What Power Does God Have?
The power of God is not about controlling people, predicting the future, casting spells, or seeking hidden knowledge.
God's power changes our hearts.
Christianity believes that our aim is to be holy as He is holy.
When someone puts their faith in Jesus Christ, God gives them His Holy Spirit to live within them.
"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth... When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit."
Ephesians 1:13
Jesus promised His followers that they would not be left alone.
"I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth."
John 14:16–17
The Holy Spirit doesn't lead us into fear, confusion, or bondage. He leads us closer to Jesus and helps us become more like Him.
The Bible calls this the Fruit of the Spirit.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22–23
This is what God's power produces in a person's life:

The Holy Spirit also teaches us to forgive, to show mercy, to care for others, and to love even those who have hurt us.
"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
Ephesians 4:32
Jesus said that people would recognise His followers by the love they show.
"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:35
Shame, Guilt vs Conviction
Many people who begin turning to Jesus carry feelings of shame, guilt, fear, or regret about their past. If that is you, know that Jesus invites you to come to Him exactly as you are.
The Bible teaches that the enemy wants to keep us trapped in fear, hiding, shame, and condemnation. He wants us to believe we are beyond God's love or that we should run away from Him. But God calls us into the light, where there is forgiveness, healing, freedom, and new life.
It is normal to feel sorrow over our past. In fact, godly sorrow can lead us to repentance. But there is a difference between the voice of condemnation and the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
Condemnation says:
"You are too far gone. God could never love you. You're beyond forgiveness. Hide from Him."
Conviction says:
"This is not God's best for you. Turn to Jesus. He loves you, He will forgive you, He wants to heal you, set you free, and help you walk in a new way."
The enemy uses shame, guilt, and fear to drive us away from God. The Holy Spirit lovingly convicts us to draw us closer to Him. One pushes us into hiding; the other calls us into the light.
God's conviction is never about making us feel worthless. It is His loving invitation to repent, receive His grace, and be transformed.
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
Romans 8:1
God already knows everything about us. Nothing in our lives surprises Him, and nothing is hidden from His sight. Yet He still loves us and invites us to come to Him.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:9
God doesn't ask us to hide our wounds—He asks us to bring them into His light so that He can heal them.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light... the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
1 John 1:7
Jesus' desire is not to condemn you but to restore you. He knows every part of your story, every hurt, every fear, and every place where healing is needed. He is compassionate, patient, and full of mercy.
You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to Jesus. Bring Him your questions, your fears, your past, and your heart. He delights in forgiving, healing, restoring, and making all things new.
